چکیده

A 33 year old woman developed a florid form of chronic active hepatitis after exposure to halothane. Histological and immunological data suggested that autoimmune type chronic active hepatitis antedated the acute hepatotoxic sequelae of the hatothane anaesthesia. Studies on the immuno regulatory functions of peripheral blood lymphocytes revealed a marked defect in suppressor cell function. It is suggested that this immunoregulatory defect in a patient with chronic liver disease may have rendered her more suscepti ble to the hepatotoxic effect of halothane or the maintenance of damaging immune reactions triggered off by this anaesthetic agent.

A comparison between the effect of halothane and propofol on liver enzymes after general anesthesia

Background: Halothane is the routine used inhalation anesthetic drug in the world but at present, there is an increasing interest for using intravenous anesthetics like propofol. The purpose of this study was to compare these anesthetic effects on hepatic enzymes. Methods: From 2006 to 2007, this study was performed on fifty eight patients classified in class I of American Society of Anesthetics...

TLR2 Expression in Peripheral CD4+ T Cells Promotes Th17 Response and Is Associated with Disease Aggravation of Hepatitis B Virus-Related Acute-On-Chronic Liver Failure

Th17 responses have been shown to play crucial roles in the pathogenesis of hepatitis B virus (HBV)-associated acute-on-chronic liver failure (ACLF). The mechanism underlying the enhanced Th17 responses in these patients remains largely unclear. Here we investigated toll-like receptors (TLRs) expression in peripheral T cells and their roles in Th17 cell differentiation and disease aggravation i...

Pathologic changes following chronic exposures to halothane: a review.

The toxic effects of halothane on the liver, kidney, and brain are reviewed. Increasing evidence has indicated that hepatic degeneration can be induced in several animal speices after exposure to halothane. Recent electron microscopic investigations have also revealed cytological degeneration of the liver cells after chronic exposure to subclinical levels of halothane. Degeneration of the kidne...

What kind of hepatitis?

Finding one major hepatotropic virus may not be enough to identify the aetiology of liver disease when risk factors are present, particularly in patients with past or present infection with other viral agents, or chronic liver disease. The pathogenic process in these cases is often complex. In the five cases we report, acute hepatitis (initiated by halothane, cytomegalovirus or Epstein-Barr vir...

Utility of Modeling End-Stage Liver Disease in Children with Chronic Liver Disease

Introduction: Chronic liver diseases consist of wide spectrum disorders that may be complicated by cirrhosis and therefore need to transplantation. The pediatric end-stage liver disease (PELD) score and model of end-stage liver disease (MELD) score has been used as predictors of mortality chronic liver diseases listed for liver transplantation. The aim of this study is evaluation of relation be...
